Hello,

I just installed a fresh Ubuntu 18.04 image on Parallels Desktop 13.3.2 (43368) and I can't install Parallels Tools, not with the graphical installer, not with the command line installer.

Here is the content of /var/log/parallels-tools-install.log

Please provide a solution quickly.

Parallels Desktop 14 throws Ubuntu PHP off

This is hard to describe, but it's provable to be due to the new Parallels Desktop 14.01. Perhaps others can provide better search terms.
I use Parallels Desktop 13 with an Ubuntu 14 guest OS to run Apache and PHP 7.1.15 successfully. This morning, I installed Parallels Desktop 14.01 for its features. Apache and PHP seemingly OK as my apps were running seemingly OK. Except, there were odd signs when I went to modify some working PHP code and I would get PHP errors. I spent most of the day...

Issues for Mouse and Coherence after DskTp 15 install for Cento07, Kali 2018.4 and 2019.2

On my MacOS, with the new Parallels Desktop 15 update, I open Window 10 1903, and Ubuntu 18.04.02, as well as Windows 7, and all goes well with the Toolbox update. However, not the case for CentOS7, Kali 2018.4 and Kali 2019.2, for all three OS's, I have a non-sync mouse, no coherence supported, and the screen is super big in the window and up close no matter how you adjust it. For CentOS7, I can't even get to the OS, it hangs at starting up the Gnome Display, and I'm unable to get to a...

I get an error. The log is at http://susepaste.org/view//96054230
I originally installed it successfully, after doing zypper dup, and my VM booted into graphics mode. But I was informed there were 516 updates and to do zypper dup again. It would no longer boot into graphics mode. And The parallels tools install died.

Parallels 15 Parallels Tools for Linux mess up Ubuntu

When I installed Parallels Tools after the update to Parallels 15 my Ubuntu installations were messed up.

Specifically for the standard Ubuntu 18.04 the autologin didn't work any more and for Xubuntu, which I have configured to start in text mode, startx just hangs instead of starting X. In both cases I installed Parallels tools via the yellow exclam button in X.

Parallels 15 still doesn't work with Ubuntu 1904?

Problems installing Elementary OS

I am trying to install Elementary OS, an Ubuntu derivative (elementary.io), under Parallels Desktop 14 on a late 2014 iMac running High Sierra (10.12). The Mac and Parallels are up to date.

ISSUE: When Elementary OS boots, all I get is a black screen. I've installed many Linux distros on this machine to test them but this is the first time I ran into this problem!

I went through the steps to install Elementary OS (eOS). Before the install, I create a custom configuration to give the VM...

Hello

One of my customers asked me convert an existing virtual machine in Parallels (that runs Ubuntu 16) so it can run in Virtualbox on Windows.
I tried to convert the *.hdd file, but this seems to be really tough. Is there an updated tutorial or any other recommondations to fix this problem?

Thanks a lot!

Kind regards

Tim.

Parallel Tools breaks Kali 2019.2 Video Drivers

After installing Parallel 15 using a Kali 2019.2 guest - the video is locked in at very specific DPI (much less than the monitor supports, and much less than was available in Parallels 14). If I install Parallel Tools 15 on Kali, it breaks the virtual machine completely. See two screen shots..

I have trouble installing Parrot OS 4.6 on Parallels 15.0.0 (46967).

I can run Live mode but when I try installing the screen goes black. I tried settings OS version to "More Linux => Other Linux" and settings HDD and CDROM to IDE but still no luck.

I have no trouble installing the same ISO on Virtual Box. Text based GUI installer appears as soon as I select "Install" option.

I have MacOS Mojave Version 10.14.6 (18G87)
How can I make it work in Patallels?

Hi I have an issue specifically with version 13 flashing Android images to my Rockchip device using Ubuntu Linux.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
  • put my Android Rockchip device (RK3368) into boot loader mode
    • adb reboot bootloader (either from Mac side or Linux side, no changes at all)
  • Check the status using the "upgrade_tool" binary (doesn't matter if you never used it! read on..)
    • upgrade_tool
..at this point
  • Parallels 12 correctly...

Parallels opens up VM to do text file edit.

I'm running Parallels 15 under macOS Mojave with three linux VMs (Ubuntu 16 and 18, and CentOS 7). When I try to edit a text file using emacs (which exists on my macOS machine), Parallels insists on opening a new VM to use emacs there. This was not the behavior prior to upgrading last week, and definitely not what I want. I am not using coherence. How do I permanently prevent this undesired behavior?

Unable to Install an Ubuntu 14.04 Guest with Parallels 15

I'm currently trying to set up an Ubuntu 14.04 guest on a macbook running 10.14.6 (mojave). As far as I can tell, 14.04 is supposed to be a supported guest OS, but I can never get through the installation. I downloaded the Ubuntu iso and selected it in the installation assistant. I have tried both with and without 'express installation' checked. The installation starts and gets as far as the screen that provides options to install or 'try without installing'. I choose 'install' and it goes...

Google Chrome black screen on ubuntu 18.04

Any ideas how to solve the black window issue? This used to work fine until the most recent Ubuntu/Chrome upgrades about three weeks ago. (parallels 14.1.3, Ubuntu 18.04 all recent patches installed, Google Chrome up to date (74? Cannot see as the window is black).

When I start Chrome with --no-gpu option, it works fine but is ridiculously slow.

How do I resolve this?

NixOS Installation & Parallels Tools?

NixOS 19.03 looks really super cool. Maybe from what I'm reading one of the best possible Linux distributions right now due to its atomic update nature and ability to rollback changes. Here's a quick set of install instructions: https://www.addictivetips.com/ubuntu-linux-tips/install-nixos-linux/

Parallels, can you give us some steps to install Parallels Tools properly with both KDE and Gnome?

Debian 10.1 cannot boot into X11, cannot install Parallels Tools.

Guest OS is Debian 10.1. This VM has been working reasonably well for several years now. Today I ran into a series of problems.
1. Log in hung while activating video. Repeatedly.
2. Re-installing Parallels Tools from command line crashes and hangs the VM.

About all I can do now is boot the VM into command line (level 3).

I just submitted technical report ID 321598867 .

Abysmal network throughput under Linux and PD15

Has anyone else seen terrible (~15mb/sec) throughput for Linux VMs (Mint, Manjaro) under PD15? Doesn't seem to happen in VMWare or PD14 or VirtualBox.

Is there a way to slow clock ticks under Linux?

A time honored patch for *nix systems under a VM is to slow down the clock ticks to reduct the overhead of the interrupt handling - a VM usually doesn't need the resolution Linux provides. I know FreeBSD under VMWare has a sysctl change to slow down timer interrupts. Anyone know if Parallels can do the same for *nix systems (or is it handled in the Tools additions?).
I sure wish there was better documentation on what and why Parallels does under the hood.
